Author Visits
I love sharing my books, especially with military brats. At author visits, In addition to telling my story and why I wrote the CUL DE SAC Kids series, I read an exerpt from one of my books. This encourages discussion about the struggles faced by a military brat and how they are similar and different from those of others. I also enjoy sharing a brief peek into the writing process and what it takes to "make a book."
School programs (in-person or virtual) are tailored for grades 3-8. Two programs are offered (a shorter 30 min program for the younger ages). Amanda begins by telling her story and the inspiration behind the CUL DE SAC KIDS series and then reads a short excerpt from one of the books in the series. This transitions into discussion of the struggles a military brat faces and how they are the same in some ways, yet different in many others from the struggles of “regular kids.” Amanda then takes students behind the scenes as she discusses briefly the writing and publishing process answering questions of the students. (Approximate time: 30 minutes for grades 3-5; 45 minutes for grades 6-8. Both include Q/A.)
